Banten Lama, an oldies town

Located on Banten village, about 10 kilometers from the nearest town, Serang. On Banten Lama, we can see many historical artifact from early time when Islam entering to became main religion in Banten social life. Also, We can point out many historical evidences like Masjid Agung Banten (Banten Grand Mosque), ruins of Kaibon palace, ruins of Surasowan palace, Maulana Yusuf cemetery, Sultan Hasanudin (1522-1570) cemetery, Speelwijk fortress, Klenteng the Chinese temple, and Tasikardi artifact site.

On the north direction of Masjid Agung Banten, there are ruins of Dutch fortress was built when they came entering Indonesia as imperialist, about 400 years ago. We also can see the oldest Java harbor called Karang Waru. In the past time, many big ships dropped anchor in this harbor, they came from Persia (Iran), Arab, England and Holland.
