Marlborough Fortress Bengkulu

Marlborough Fortress is a historical cultural tourism object that located in the center of Bengkulu city, easily reached using many kinds of vehicles.
This rest of England colonialism was built in 1713-1719 commended by Governor Joseph Callet when he was holding Bengkulu role. The fortress was the strongest one in Indonesia at the moment, second in the world after George Fortress in Madras India. Now, it is 275 year’s old.
This tourism object easy to be reached, because it is placed on the town’s heart, nearly Pasar Baru Kuto I and in brotherhood with Tapak Padri beach. Numerous tourists often visit the fortress, they come from foreign countries or domestic tourists. Inside the fortress we can see many rooms and places, such as jails, arsenals, and sanctuary. In the Indonesian revolution era, Bung Karno (1st Indonesian president) has been jailed in the fortress. In the past, there were some underground tunnel functioned as exit-trance (escape way). One of them perforated to Panjang Beach, Tapak padri, or Governor Palace. But, because minimum cares, they have been closed now.
